Animal Kingdom is a very popular destination for both young and young at heart. Since this park has fewer attractions than the other theme parks, the kids may not enjoy it as much as the older crowd.
The best advice is GO EARLY! Crowds really pickup by mid to late morning and continue throughout the afternoon.
For the top attractions make use of Disney's FastPass Ticket System. The one exception to this for first time visitors is to not use the system at Expedition Everest. Doing so will cause you to miss the outstanding display inside the Trading Post.
FastPass allows guests to avoid the long lines at popular attractions, freeing up the time that would have otherwise been spent just waiting in line. The service is available at no additional charge to all park guests.
FastPass is actually a virtual line created by a computer that saves your space in line. Then based upon how many guests are in front of you in the virtual line, the computer calculates how much time it should take for your virtual position to arrive at the front of the line. That is the time frame printed on your ticket. Complicated yes, but a real time saver.
FastPass is available only on a few select attractions and is offered first come, first served basis. Later in the day and the FastPass allotment of tickets will be exhausted for that day.
To take advantage of this system, you need to have your original entry ticket to the park. Everyone in your group that wants to ride together, must have a FastPass ticket.
When you approach a FastPass attraction you'll see 2 clocks. The first tells how long the wait time is if you got in line right then. The other clock tells you what time you should return if you got a FastPass ticket now.
If you decide to use the system, go to the FastPass ticket machine, insert your admission ticket FOR EACH PERSON IN YOUR GROUP. The machine will then dispense your FastPass Ticket with the the time frame printed on it.
There is a limit to the number of FastPass tickets can be issued to one ticket holder at a time. Also, issued FastPass tickets are good only on the day of issue.
Once you receive your FastPass ticket, there will be a time range stamped on it stating something similar to:
Return Anytime Between
10:05 AM AND 11:05 AM
The times are specific and you will not be permitted to line-up 1 minute before the printed time.
